On this, the last day of Autism Acceptance Month, we share a thank you from a parent supported by our partners, Rain Kids in Chișinău, Moldova. St Gregory's has recently funded food parcels to go out to families hit by an acute cost of living crisis in the country.

"Raising a child with special needs is challenging, especially when the system doesn’t offer much real support. Having Rain Kids provide these packages regularly takes some of the weight off our shoulders, helping us focus more on our child's needs. Thank you for truly seeing us and for being there."

21 children and young people with a range of disabilities enjoyed a 4-day camp with our partners, Communication Space. This year two families took part from Tula region, together with professionals from a charity there who were eager to learn about how to run such camps.

Ion's parents began to worry when he was slow to start speaking. At kindergarten he would avoid interacting with other children. He was diagnosed with psychoverbal delay and mental retardation. For just over a year, Ion has been attending the Wish Centre in Calarasi, Moldova, benefiting from speech therapy, educational activities and occupational therapy. His vocabulary is increasing, and he is much happier interacting with others now. The Wish are't able to offer Ion as much therapy as they would like because of funding issues. St Gregory's is helping them meet the gap so they can continue to help disabled children in their community.

It's Autism Acceptance Month. This beautiful video from our partners at Communication Space shows that there is hope even for people who are not verbal and are severely disabled with autism. Life does not have to be about endurance for them or their families. There are ways of communicating, building relationships and bringing joy even in challenging circumstances.

A window on Communication Space's work with non-verbal, autistic adults
When you come across someone who is non-verbal, their life may seem to be shrouded in mystery, their thoughts and feelings inaccessible. Unless you know someone well who is non-verbal, the chances are that you feel rather daunted by interacting with them. Without help to bridge this gap, people who....
