What we do

St Gregory’s Foundation helps disabled children and teenagers with communication difficulties to connect to the world so they can become as independent as possible. We provide education, training and skills to graduates from orphanages to give them a good start in life. We empower children and families living with impaired hearing to take a full part in…

Where we work

St Gregory’s Foundation supports projects across Eastern Europe, and in particular in St Petersburg, Moscow and Karelia in North West Russia, in Călărași and Chișinău in Moldova and in Tbilisi in Georgia. However, our work often has a wider impact as our partners pass their skills and expertise onto others. By using the power of…

Remembering our founder, Irina von Schlippe

On 16th June, 2025, our founder, Irina von Schlippe, sadly passed away. Some of you will have known Irina, and will have your own memories of her. We would like to share our own tributes, and those of our colleagues in Russia whose charitable work owed much to Irina’s energy, imagination and care. If you…

You might not think that the combination of cleaning up someone's unkempt yard and a picnic would be a popular option for kids. Yet, Nino, director of Mkurnali, assures us that the children from their community 'are excited, enthusiastic, and—most importantly—they are gradually learning how important it is to live in a clean and orderly environment.' This summer they have been helping former residents living in villages around Tbilisi to sort and clean their surroundings.

Don't forget our AGM this afternoon (5.30pm UK time on Zoom). We're very much looking forward to hearing from co-founder of Rain Kids, Ana Gorea about the organisation's work in Moldova with children with special needs. We're also looking forward to seeing you remotely, telling you what we've been up to and answering your questions.

This summer, Mkurnali has been helping a group of four children of their former residents. Having battled homelessness and many other disadvantages, their parents are unable to help them with their school work and they have fallen seriously behind. In year seven, they did not recognise all the letters of the alphabet. Each day, Mkurnali has been offering catch-up lessons, and now they are reading! Their maths has also made great progress. Alongside school work, they have also been able to learn new sports and have had outings. Nino tells us, 'Of course, not all of the children were interested in studying from the start, and not everyone came right away. But once they saw how much fun the others were having — and realised that being here isn’t only about school — some have already expressed a desire to join the programme.'

St Gregory's is sponsoring professional training for Ana Cislaru, lead therapist at Rain Kids, a Moldovan charity helping children with special needs. She hasn't finished the course yet, but already her training has helped her make a break through with Alex, a four-year-old autistic boy, who was initially fearful and withdrawn. Read more about how Alex started smiling at his therapy sessions. https://buff.ly/jYWsAkG

We continue to be very proud of Christina, Mkurnali resident, whose gymnastics career SGF donors generously helped get underway. This year, she won first place in the World Cup competition and took first place in every tournament she participated in!
