Bringing troubled families closer together – reducing risk to children
For over ten years, our partners, Sunflower, have been running extraordinary summer camps for parents who grew up in children’s homes and their children. Can you help make summer 2025 a time of change for families who desperately want to improve their relationships?
What a difference a week can make!
For one week in the summer, Sunflower takes a group of families to the countryside for a summer camp no other. This is a time for intensive work on communication skills and relationships. The week-long camp uncovers issues which may have remained hidden during the shorter support sessions through the year. Families also get to spend more time together in carefully planned activities: painting, exploring their surroundings, playing and talking. Psychologists spend time with parents to help them understand their own childhood trauma. Together they can break the hold that past experiences have, and build a better future for their family.
How you can help
Planning for the summer camps starts in the spring as our colleagues carefully select the families that can benefit most from the summer camp. To make this all happen we are asked to contribute £4,500 to help cover food and staff costs. Can you help?
